Greek 2 Chic: Picks of the Week

If you like the Air Yeezy’s then you will probably love these…
These Marty McFly looking shoes are called the ATO Cow Hide Boot from Japanese designer ATO MATSUMOTO.
These shoes come in black, silver, white, and red. But it’s something about the black that gets me. To be honest, I think these shoes may have inspired the Air Yeezy’s if you ask me. But that’s just how an Urban Graduate thinks. We always see the fashion connection…we have an eye for these types of things y’dig.
The Urban Graduate [transport]
I’m not sure if Mobil/Exxon really care, but Urban Graduates EVERYWHERE are being hit hard by the skyrocketing prices of oil. We drive a wide range of vehicles…. old hatchbacks, gas-guzzling spaceships, “I can drive over anything” SUVs, the ever-fashionable Passat, and occasionally, Daddy’s old Mercedez; but I can almost guarantee that NONE of our cars run on old beer cans and banana peels (i.e. The Delorean). It’s great that Hybrid, Electric, and Bio-Diesel cars are all on the market — but let’s be honest….is the Urban Graduate in a financial position to purchase any of these?
Allow me to introduce my nifty friend, THE BICYCLE!! Bicycles (Bikes for short) have been around for almost 200 years (ten years shy). These two-wheeled devices transport a rider from one place to another place…just like cars do– but with considerably LESS GAS (actually…none at all)! AND, they can PARK ANYWHERE for free.
Okay, let me be serious, people ride bikes all the time. As an Urban Graduate, do not restrict yourself to the dogmatic ways of Cars. Pick up a bike, and pedal to work, to school, to the bank, or wherever you deem reasonably within distance. You’ll save a few bucks, burn a few calories, and take care of business.

The smARTORIALIST: Wildin’ Out West
ROCK WITH ME on this one…western “pearl snap” shirts.
Western shirts (not the honkey tonk, Dolly Parton looking ones) range from cheap to moderately priced and come in an endless array of colorful plaid designs. There is a design out there that will compliment any pair of kicks you can find or currently own.
Denimation 201: Selvedge [sel-vij]
Urban Graduates,
This is lesson one in a class about the wonderful world of denim. The class on what denim actually is was covered in Denimation 101…but that was the basics. As Urban Graduates you are now specializing in the fashion field so there is no need to backtrack. Lesson 1: You say selvage…I say SELVEDGE.
Selvedge, or “self-edge” denim has always been hot but pricey because of its high quality. Selvedge denim is made on old-style shuttle looms that produces a narrower fabric than the newer and more commonly used projectile loom. This produces a more tightly weaved denim that lasts longer. In Selvedge denim, you can see the actual edge in the outseam where the weaving has stopped (as opposed to projectile looms where the fabric has been cut off at the ends resulting in lighter and less durable jeans). The selvedge edge is usually stitched with a colored thread…red being the most common. In the past, to acquire a pair of selvedge jeans you would have to buy some vintage jeans or go to Japan. Prices for a pair of premium selvedge jeans usually range somewhere from 200-300 U.S. dollars. But now, thanks to Uniqlo (they’re the “Japanese H&M”) you can acquire a pair of premium selvedge jeans for around eighty bucks. Unsure if the jeans are selvedge…cuff em and look for the signature selvedge edges located along the outseam of the jeans!
