u|T|ø endorses…B-Side

One of the best ways for women to add character to any outfit during the Fall/Winter season is to take FULL advantage of unique accessories. Sure, everyone is gonna have a scarf or a bracelet here and there, but how many ladies will have truly eye-catching pieces? ….riiiiiight…not many.

Insert B-Side by Ken & Dana. Their latest accessories collection features a variety of exotic, vibrant pieces. B-Side recreates the modern accessory by using geometrical shapes and mixing them with fluid, yet textured staples like silk scarves and beaded neckwear. The dopest thing about these accessories is that they actually have VOLUME! Chunky accessories are GREAT complements to fall/winter wears. Kudos to B-Side for being bold in the fall, and kudos to the Graduettes with enough moxie to pull of these accessories.

RecessionPrøøf 220: Jockin’ (+J) – Z

leave a comment »

Who’s gonna run this fall? Fashionably speaking, it will be none other than +J – Z. Let me clarify; we’re not talking about Hov, we’re talking about the fall offerings of two affordable fashion powerhouses, Uniqlo and Zara.

The heavily anticipated +J collection (Jil Sander for Uniqlo) is set to launch October 1st, and from what we’ve been privy to viewing…the pieces are BANANAS (especially the women’s down ¾ length coat)! The monochromatic grays used in this line will establish a legit base for every look you attempt this Fall/Winter. We’re talking, Japanese engineered garments, with a reputable designer’s vision, ALL ranging from $21 to $155 (we know…those are like Canal St. prices). Don’t SLEEP!

The budget chic underdog, Zara, usually gets overlooked because of H&M’s popularity/ accessibility, and Topshop’s coup d’etat of Europhile fashionistas. However, there are 2 lanes that Zara succeeds both brands: Outerwear and Footwear. In terms of outerwear, Zara uses a unique color palette and mixes different, yet complementary materials to recreate traditional blazers, jackets, and overcoats. In terms of footwear, Zara manages to produce tasteful analogs of designer/runway shoes, with better construction than ANY budget chic brand – for prices ranging from $39 to $89 (women & men). That’s a no-brainer!

On that note, just act accordingly: this F/W, your Blueprint for fashion…+J – Z (AWH!…in my best Hov voice).

u|T|ø endorses…3sixteen Fall 2009

with 2 comments

3sixteen Fall 2009

Frankly, 3sixteen needs no introduction. Back in April, we previewed the S/S 09 collection just to give Grads a taste of the creative genius this brand possesses. This fall, our friends over at 3sixteen have truly outdone themselves, presenting a collection that is both sophisticated and unique. View the video look book here.

The entire collection emits a rich urban zest, offering a variety of pieces (from staple outerwear like pea coats and toggle coats to elite accessories like ties, bracelets, and glasses). Their latest look book is set against a New York City backdrop, adding a sleek cosmopolitan element to this collection.

Honestly, it’s refreshing to see such an astute approach to presenting a designer collection. A brotha can look at something like this and visualize himself in these settings, wearing this apparel, and giving off this vibe. With that said, u|T|ø stands behind this product — unequivocably.

This one is…..you guessed it, A HI-TOP with STRAPS (proceed to gawk and gander)! Only thing left for us to say is….Don’t act like we never told ya.

It’s JULY, and there are a bunch of frogs out there who are celebrating their birthday this month (well…technically, it’s a belated birthday extravaganza). UTO figured we’d toss a few looks at you for good measure. Wings anyone??:

The Skerry Rainboot by Tretorn. Ok….somebody needs to sound the alarms cuz these joints are CRAAAAZY. Rainboots are thought to be an accessory that people with high fashion IQs invest in. But the folks at Tretorn just decided to go bonkers on the concept and presented these. Pay attention to the insulation (faux fur, good for rain and snow activity), then….appreciate the mid-calf height. Last but not least….the color combinations. Wifey, if your reading…..grab those and meet me in Boston.

The Ghetto Blaster Tote Bag by Loop Design. MAAAAAAAAAAAN! This is the official ATTENTION GRABBER of the summer. 1) It’s a tote bag, which is pretty much necessary for beach/picnic chillin. Spacious, hell a lil dog can even fit inside. 2) The color selection is impeccable. If you got this thrown over your shoulder, all you need is a basic white top, some nice shorts, and some color basic sneaks i.e. chucks, vans, maybe creative recs. 3) THE DAMN THING HAS SPEAKERS!!!! Look close at the middle picture. It’s got an iPod jack on the inside, so you really can get it poppin once the jaws stop droppin, ya dig?!

The Pencil Case II by Tokidoki + Hello Kitty. Collaborations are always dope. Two of the most popular designers collided on this joint and created a subtle masterpiece. Now, most people forgot about these things we call “pencil cases”, but they actually are a good idea. I mean, not many people can say that their swag EXTENDS into the classroom.  Summer school is in session….get ya gear and ya grades up.

You know how guys like supportive women? Well, if you didn’t know, now you do! Some call it team spirit, others call it marking their territory– either way, when ladies rock an outfit that screams “That is MY man, HANDS OFF!”, it makes us erupt. The haters get jealous, the homies give respect, and point blank….IT’S SEXY as hell. Quietly…. in the most manly, Barry White-esque internal voice….we’re sayin, “Aww, that’s sweeeeet”. This post is dedicated to yall. Here are some looks for the ladies who wanna rep with their guy (the ape, dog, centaur, or rabbit):

The Gilda Gladiator Sandal by Sam Edelman. The MUST HAVE item of the summer, gladiator-style sandals are a good look for women. But peep the color accents…PUNCTILIO!

The Enamel Stud Bangle by AV Max Jewelry. Accessories that actually have symbolism are very unique. Cop that!

The Glasses Tee by Public Domain. STUNNA SHADES GO!! — even on a tee-shirt. This is a clever way to support, plus you look fresh as ’85.

Wifey Material 2 by Two In the Shirt. This is probably one of the most controversial, AND most popular tees out right now. The one shown here is a men’s shirt, but I’ve seen women rocking the size small. I feel like these women exist (not necessarily MY wifey, but to each his own)….soo…why not rock the shirt.

The Urban Graduate [transport]

with one comment

I’m not sure if Mobil/Exxon really care, but Urban Graduates EVERYWHERE are being hit hard by the skyrocketing prices of oil. We drive a wide range of vehicles…. old hatchbacks, gas-guzzling spaceships, “I can drive over anything” SUVs, the ever-fashionable Passat, and occasionally, Daddy’s old Mercedez; but I can almost guarantee that NONE of our cars run on old beer cans and banana peels (i.e. The Delorean). It’s great that Hybrid, Electric, and Bio-Diesel cars are all on the market — but let’s be honest….is the Urban Graduate in a financial position to purchase any of these?

Allow me to introduce my nifty friend, THE BICYCLE!! Bicycles (Bikes for short) have been around for almost 200 years (ten years shy). These two-wheeled devices transport a rider from one place to another place…just like cars do– but with considerably LESS GAS (actually…none at all)! AND, they can PARK ANYWHERE for free.

Okay, let me be serious, people ride bikes all the time. As an Urban Graduate, do not restrict yourself to the dogmatic ways of Cars. Pick up a bike, and pedal to work, to school, to the bank, or wherever you deem reasonably within distance. You’ll save a few bucks, burn a few calories, and take care of business.

Check out these items from around the web:

Striped Jersey Shopper Tote Bag by Marc Jacobs. Fly, in such a casual, beach-esque way. It’s not doing too much, but it shows that you’re on point with your taste.

Reva Ballet Flats by Tory Burch. I don’t know what it is with women and ballet flats. YALL LOVE THEM JOINTS! I know that us fellas…don’t understand why you want to walk around all day basically barefoot.  Nevertheless, these are some really fresh flats.

The Pinstripe Old Skool Lo Pro by Vans. This sneaker has had the BIGGEST come up in the last few years (thanks to all my Thizzlamic Folk out in the Yay Area)! I feel like this is the perfect crossover shoe for ladies; you can be active, and be fresh.

Urban Takeout is still in the development stage of our “Century” line. As always, peep some of these items from around the web that you can flip into your personal collection:

Nike Air Max ’95. Voted one of America’s favorite shoes (for sneakerheads of course). They are almost as classic as all white K-Swiss, Air Force Ones, Chucks, or J’s. Color combination is CRAAAZY though!

The Revolver Watch by Nixon. CLEEEAN! If I could whistle…..maaan. The key word here is VERSATILITY. You could rock this timepiece in almost any setting.

Gucci Bamboo Horsebit Moccasins. Uh yeeeeah….this one is for brothas who’s pockets aren’t touchin. Well-made, high quality, and beyond appropriate (loafers in the summer with no socks, GQ casual look).

THE AIR YEEZY’S (tan/neutral) by NIKE. This is probably the most exclusive sneaker out right now. He rocks them in concert! PLUS, these joints GLOW IN THE DAMN DARK.

The Elk Fish Tee by Artful Dodger. Different, eye-catching, and a good compliment piece.

The Spring to Summer then Fall Overshirt by LRG. This piece is DOPE! Again, VERSATILITY. Dress it up or down, rock with ya Willy Wonka’s (loafers) or your sneakers. The seersucker is what turns this piece from regular overshirt to fashionable garment.

The Urban Graduate [defined]

with 3 comments

Currently, we are in the final development stages for a clothing line that caters to the demographic we call, “The Urban Graduate“. However, alot of people have questions about what the term entails. Well, to answer — the Urban Graduate is basically a student of life and his/her environment. This student understands contemporary trends, but is always looking to be individually innovative. Resourcefulness, high aptitude and a classic style are all trademarks of the Urban Graduate. Employ the phrase in your daily vocabulary!!!! Let’s take UTØ to the top.
