Denimation 201: Warrior Chic

leave a comment »

Warrior chic really got its push from the gladiator sandal, however…the designers over at Acne Jeans decided to take it one step further. Their Spring/Summer 2010 skinny denim line features metallic plates or armor fashioned along the thigh, knee, or shin of the pant leg. We’re not sure whether the inspiration behind this is Joan of Arc, Xena – Warrior Princess, or that Beyonce robot suit (designed by Thierry Mugler), but…yea — to each his/her own. What do you think about Acne Armored Jeans?

RecessionPrøøf 220: Payless

with one comment

What if I told you that you could pull off designer footwear….for less than $50?

Payless has paired with designers like Christian Siriano (of Project Runway fame), Alice + Olivia (Russian designers), and STPL (of Staple Design) to produce some recession-friendly footwear options for both women and men. I understand that people have an affinity for overpriced goods….but sometimes it’s about getting more bang for your buck, being sexy while also being smart with your expenses. Don’t let the name fool you! Payless has put a lot of effort into acquiring industry-proven brands and making affordable products that are just as fashionable as “runway footwear”. Check out these examples….none of which exceeds $49.99:

leave a comment »

The objective of our new category, RecessionProof 220, is to simply provide dependable suggestions of things/items that will contribute to your style, with out contributing to your debt. These items are virtually inelastic — they won’t fluctuate with the economy, they won’t depreciate in value over time, and they won’t need a billion-dollar bailout. “Why?” you ask….because Urban Graduates deserve it.

So here is the Rick Owens look at a WAAAY more affordable price.

Levi’s® x DKNY

with one comment

In celebration of DKNY’s 20th anniversary, Donna Karan has teamed with Levi’s to produce three styles of American jeans with a “sexy twist”:

These jeans retail for $225 and you can purchase them straight from the DKNY website. The whole wearing-your-boyfriend’s-jeans look is not one of my favorites, but I think this is a good look…

Stussy x Hellz Bellz

We gave you a glimpse at the collaboration back in the Valentine’s Day “Cupid’s Collage” post. The Official release date for the long-awaited Stussy x Hellz Bellz Ladies First Collection is this coming Saturday, March 07, 2009. The two iconic labels volley signature elements, such as Stussy’s CRAAAAZY typography, and Hellz Bellz’s Femme Fatale flair and colorways. I really appreciate their minimalist, bad ass chick approach — job well done. This will more than likely sell out, so jump on it like a trampoline before you see MIA (sans-preggers) or Santogold with every piece.

Don’t Act Like I Never Told Ya! [McQueen for TARGET]

with one comment

I’ve been meaning to get around to this but I figured I’d just announce it on the day of…TODAY is the release of Alexander McQueen’s collection for Target stores! Some have mixed feelings about the collection because they have been spoiled by his runway collections, but I think that the clothes are very fitting for the setting they’re in. I think Alexander McQueen’s bad boy image has been excellently, yet subtlely translated into this women’s line for Target, even if it does resemble the younger McQueen. The collection will be available from today, March 4th to April 14th, 2009. So urban graduettes, get on it (if you feel).

Check out another view of the black studded leather vest in the latest Gouyen post.
